I think is just only coz of the same hardware and software vendor. If developers only base on same hardware or simlar hardware structure, the system will be most stable, because the software is delicated for certain hardware.

Compared to the rest, notwithstanding the odd glitch, Apple still stands above.

And they are pretty decent about fixing proven product defects. Sometimes it takes them a while to get the message and devise a workable fix, but in the end they usually do the right thing.

Peace,
Gene

If there is a difference in HW reliability, it may be in Apple's chassis designs. They seem considerably more rigid than the typical PC, so just in day to day moving it around and such there is less flex of the components and PCBs.

As to the software reliability, Apple simply has substantially fewer HW configurations to deal with. That makes it inherently easier to test and maintain software quality. Certainly, Apple puts a much greater emphasis on user interface design, leading to fewer user issues. I use Windows at work, and nary a day goes by that I don't have to Google something to find some obscure setting on a poorly designed GUI for whatever App I happen to be wrestling with at the time.

Apple is a first-tier vendor, and as such tends to have higher quality than the no-name brands. Hardware wise, any computer from any first-tier vendor will be of about the same quality, as they are like Gene stated, built in the same factories.

I think Apple gets its higher ratings largely on account of OS X's improved reliability compared to Windows. How many of the support calls and even hardware repairs aren't related to hardware at all, but to device drivers and Windows issues? Most likely enough to knock the likes of Lenovo and HP from the lead and give Apple's equal-quality hardware the better ratings.

Reader surveys? Maybe it's just that Maczealots defend their religion even when they are screwed. I couldn't find any sign of some particularly higher level of quality control on my MBP 2.4, the bottom of the LED screen has a yellowish tint, the magnetic latches don't lock properly, and the upper case with the screen is sightly bent.

I think I made it quite clear, above, that Mac notebook reliability is actually not that different from PC notebooks. They are built in the same factories, and use many of the same parts.

In your case, that's what warranty service is for. Go and fix the problem, and if things still aren't correct, let us know.

Peace,
Gene
