While they have too many versions (1 is about the right amount), that doesn't mean its confusing. Basic and premium are pretty simple to figure out, as are business and ultimate. What hyou get pretty much matches what the name suggests, though honestly there is no difference to MS in the cost of any, so they should just sell one version (ultimate) at one (basic) price.

Of if they must preserve the whole Home and Professional split from XP, then sell the Home Premium as Home and Ultimate as Professional.

Still, I had little trouble deciding which version I wanted for my PC laptop (business) as I need the domain access and could care less about media center.

For my Macs, I'm still running Tiger, mainly because I am waiting for Office 2008 before I make any changes, and will wipe my Macs and do a clean install of Leopard (hopefully 10.5.2 by then) and Office at the same time.

Not only are the various Vista versions confusing, but once you get the retail version home good luck on opening the packaging. :)

Maybe they're trying to tell you something. :)

Peace,
Gene

"Well it seems that Microsoft’s director of marketing, Mark Croft, made a boo-boo when he tried to explain what all this meant in a hearing on whether the case should attain class-action status. He said that the word capable “has an interpretation for many that, in the context of this program, a PC would be able to run any version of the Windows operating system.”"

Sounds like this guy needs to quit "to spend more time with his family". This a collossally huge blunder for a presumably highly compensated exec.

Of course, Bill G. did poorly on the stand during the MS vs. DoJ trial, and, though the DoJ got its guilty verdict, we all know MSFT's lobbyists got the company a "slap on the wrist" as a judgement. Ironically, splitting the company into OS and applications would have probably been good for MSFT.......
