Most prompts don't annoy me, but suppose they did and suppose I thought I could live without them? A couple of prompts can be switched on and off by going Finder>Preference>Advanced, and this makes me wonder whether others can be switched off with Terminal commands.

Seems like Camino needs to be tweaked a bit.

In general these prompts are a bit annoying but I tolerate them.

I would like to note that in the end I like the way the firewall works. I like that prompt.

I did as Adam suggested but it made no difference. Then I thought it might be my browser. I've used Camino almost exclusively for years. I tried Safari and it does not do this behavior. So, maybe I'll switch to Safari, although it's not all that aggravating to have to make an extra click. Camino has insulated me from most ads and it also has flashblock, which is essential IMO. Maybe Safari has flashblock, too. I'll check it out. Thanks for your suggestion DaveD. It's true that saving as PDF would also work.

With regards to needing an administrator password to install an application - IMHO it's not so much to "save me from myself" but rather to prevent anything from being installed without my knowledge.

While I'm not a big fan of the Leopard popup for the first time I'm using/opening something I downloaded, it's not a major (or even a minor) inconvenience for me.

AC, I'm guessing that a way around getting this popup in your case would be to try to "print" the page as a PDF instead of "saving" it by downloading - but I guess it depends on what you intend to do with the webpage....

<blockquote>I'm getting this same damn popup warming if I just save an html page to my desktop. I just saved this article, for example, to test it again. Trying to open it, the popup says it is a program downloaded from the internet, and do I really want to open it. This is RIDICULOUS. It cannot tell the difference between a .html file and a program? Do you have this behavior?</blockquote>

I don't get that behaviore in that use case. I would suggest that there may be a file error somewhere in the OS. Try booting form your install disk, selecting Disk Utility and running a Repair Disk on your hard drive.

Well, I thought perhaps I had set something wrong because I did not remember Leopard doing that when I first got it. So I guess I'm glad it's not just me. It's not that I'm not a big Mac fan, but Tiger was working so well that I can't say I'm happy with Leopard. The most unnecessary $100 I've spent on my computer yet, and I'm a sucker for lots of extra doodads. Oh well, I hope it's working better under the hood as advertised, because from a user's point of view, I'm afraid it's a little backwards.

It's a download, whether a page or a full-blown application, although it would be nice to see a distinction. :)
