Well, as the smoke is clearing. It's becoming more clear that this was an act of deliberate sabotage. Microsoft, who bought Danger, the company contracted by T-mobile, to host and backup all of the sidekicks data, decided to change the backup SAN servers and somehow all of the users data was lost. There are several sites that seem to hint that this was done by either a disgruntled Danger employee who was fed up with Microsoft changing how they operate and making them drink their Kool aid. The other scenario is due to the fact that most of Danger's employees have either left or gotten fired after Microsoft took over, the MS engineers decided to try to do this upgrade on their own. Either way it goes to show you what happens when you don't follow procedure and check your backup before you do anything.

If you do a little digging, you will find a familiar name in all of this: Roz Ho. Does that name ring a bell? She was the head of the Mac BU and supposedly moved to head "Pink" which is Microsoft's answer to the iPhone. Supposedly it's a Zune with a phone in it and MS bought Danger to make that dream happen. It looks like one of the remaining Danger engineers did not like where the company is going and could have done this as a final act of poisoning the well for Microsoft as well as setting back any confidence in them for years.
